Remember that yesterday I said I was gonna do a review for Water Princess, Fire Prince? Well here is is! The book is Water Princess, Fire Prince (or WPFP for short) by Kendra E. Ardnek. Isn’t the cover gorgeous?
Here’s a lovely description of this awesome book:
When the Lady Dragon does come,
Hold fast, do not fear, do not run.
Your Water Princess will fight,
Fire Prince will set all to right.
Each shall come from a Fall,
Their union will save you all.Despite the fact that she’s on track for competing in the Olympics, and he’s practically raised his younger brothers since they lost their mom in a car accident, Clara Mandras and Andrew Stevenson are pretty much normal teens. They have normal hopes, normal dreams, and they live in a normal world.
All this is torn away from them when they are thrust into another world and declared Water Princess and Fire Prince. With no experience ruling a country, meeting each other for the first time, and being expected to fight the Lady Dragon – an evil sorceress plaguing the world of Rizkaland – Clara and Andrew are underprepared and inexperienced. Unless they learn to work together despite their standing opposition, Rizkaland’s hope will be lost. What is to come will change their lives forever.
Is anyone excited yet? Well even better, Kendra has provided a small snippet from WPFP:
“I’ll decide if there’s a quarrel or not,” the girl hissed. She spun back around to face Andrew. “I don’t believe it. You’re too clumsy to be the Fire Prince.”
Clumsy. Well, that was a new one.
“Well, I came out of the Firefall,” Andrew protested.
Her already narrow blue eyes narrowed even further. “So you say.”
Suddenly something clicked in Andrew’s head. She’d been quoting books from his world, including Alice in Wonderland. That meant that she must come from his world. And she fought. Very well.
“You’re the Water Princess,” he realized, wanting desperately to be wrong. She was gorgeous, and that was half the problem. The other problem was that she was staring up at him from the hilt of his sword.
“Well, well,” she said, with mocking surprise. “You can figure something out on your own after all. Yes, I’m the Water Princess, and I am not impressed.” She waved with his sword. “Turn around and march. I can ask questions of you far better at my own camp. And you, Lord Abraham, had best follow, unless you want me to give you a reason.”
A little while back, I saw that a bunch of blogs that I follow were doing a cover reveal for Water Princess, Fire Prince, so I decided to check it out. I went to Kendra’s blog and she had a blog tour sign-up thingy, and I was like why not? So I signed up. I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect with this book, but I though why not give it a try?
Well anyways, Kendra sent it out and I couldn’t read it for awhile because I was gone for a couple weeks at camp. But when I got home I began reading it. Once I started I couldn’t stop! The book is amazing! Not to mention it’s Christian!
At first reading it, I didn’t exactly like Clara, she didn’t fit into the stereotype for people transported to another world. But then I though about her reaction to being sucked (literally, hehe) into a new world. Her reaction was real. Her reaction was the kind I would have if I went to Rizkaland. After that I really connected with her.
Then, when Kendra brought Andrew into the picture… Well let’s just say it was awesome. He’s really sweet and caring and not much of a fighter. He was just, wow.
I’m not one for romance, but when you put together Clara and Andrew and they are told that they are suppose to be united, it’s just awesome. Clara rejects Andrew, but he’s willing to be friends. It makes it quite interesting. Many times I started cracking up. Many times.
Kendra did an amazing job with this book. I love this book and I highly recommend it. It’s pretty awesome. I gave it four and a half stars because I’m not one for romance, but that’s basically it.
I give it Four and a half Stars ∗∗∗∗
Here’s a bit about the author:
Kendra E. Ardnek loves fairy tales and twisting them in new and exciting ways. She’s been practicing her skills on her dozen plus cousins and siblings for years, “Finish your story, Kendra”, is frequently heard at family gatherings. Her sole life goal has always been to grow up and be an author of fantasy and children’s tales that also glorify God and his Word. You can read more about her on her blog,http://knittedbygodsplan.blogspot.com/.
Check out her website for today’s schedule and her two awesome giveaways (good luck to you all!) Knitted by God’s Plan. Come back Saturday when I do an interview with Kendra!

Great review. You remeinded me of why I didn’t find Clara annoying. If I got sucked ito another world i have no idea how I’d react.

Thanks so much! And if I did get sucked into another world, as I mentioned above, I would probably act like Clara; a lot of sarcasm, glares, and rolling of the eyes! 😀 😀

I think that romance in a book like this is hard to do well, but Kendra did, like Erika said, nail it. There was something about Clara and Andrew that I just connected with, and while a lot of people didn’t connect with Clara, I did. It’s probably just who I am, I don’t know. But Andrew did have a lot to do with it. 😀

As I said, I connected with them both pretty well. I don’t as much like book/movie romance, I more like real story romance. I’m just a little weird that way. But I do understand what you’re saying!

Yes, I totally know what you mean. I’m not one for oodles of romance, unless it is done very tastefully. I like some, but only if it’s justified. Never just for the sake of filling pages, especially if I don’t ship the couple in the first place.

Exactly! But I did REALLY want Clara and Andrew together, and Kendra did a great job of making quite entertaining for us readers! 😀

Since the book only just released and is self-published, it probably isn’t in your library yet – but yes, you can always request it!

Great review!
I understood from the start why Clara felt the way she did . . . but other aspects of her annoyed me, honestly, so I didn’t like her as much as I could’ve. I love Andrew, though, and the creativity of the worldbuilding, so it’s ok.

Your welcome! And I get the not liking romance a bunch, but still writing it in. I’ve done it a bunch a times.
Oh, I should get my review up on Goodreads soon!

Yeah, romance is tricky. I’m trying to have a little bit in my book, but it really isn’t happening.
