Welcome to the stage, Sawyer Ali!

Well, I type for him.

So he’s not actually here.

Yeah.

How did you come up with this character?

Well, really, I just needed a character to fill in for this brilliant story that I had about mirror/dimensional travel (I swear I hadn’t yet read Beyond the Reflection’s Edge!).

It was July of Twenty-Fifteen, and NaNo had come around. I had just succeeded at my first NaNo that April, so I was feeling good. I had two names for two siblings: NathanΒ and Alice.

Basically Sawyer and Alice as kids

Alice was my MC, and Nathan was her younger brother.

Thaaaaaaaaaaan after a page I saw about Bryan Davis’s book Beyond the Reflection’s Edge,Β whichΒ was aΒ lot like the little I had planned/written. And his MC’s name was Nathan. So I trashed what I had written, and just barely kept the mirror and made the new MC Sawyer, and Alice his cousin.

Thus, I had Sawyer. But I had a problem: I had a cool story, but my MC was cardboard. And it was 1st person (though the first few pages weren’t). It wasn’t ’til page 60 or so that Sawyer had a personality.

Have they ever been starving? Why? And what did they eat to break the fast?498744b3901241ec8782ff299aaa160b

No, I don’t think so. I mean, sure there were times when his mom was gone and he didn’t really bother to eat, but growing up with a millionaire aunt&uncle has its perks.

Do they have a talent or skill that they’re proud of?

No, not really. Sawyer’s just your average gentle guy. So, maybe how he’s so kind and soft and stuff? Though that’s more what other people consider him.

List 3 things that would make them lose their temper.bdfb62abc5099517bd8cb7912441fb5e

Okay, a note about Sawyer: He doesn’t really lose his temper. It doesn’t happen.

Buuuut maybe some kinds of injustices.

(Actually, I think that thereΒ was a time when he lost his temper … but I can’t remember if it’s true or what caused it. So … yeah.)

What is their favourite type of weather? Least favorite?

Sawyer loves spring. He loves going outside and smelling the breeze (for only a brief time, mind you), and having his eyeballs sneezed out by allergies. The rainy seasons that causes him to not go outside. The thawing after winter.

But he also likes winter ’cause it’s full of his favorite color (more on that below).

(Note: You can’t actually sneeze your eyeballs out.)

What is their Hogwarts house and/or MBTI personality?

8548ee0a6e5c37c8e1282c88422aff7fThe other day (or a few weeks ago, you know) when I saw Cait post about BP, I went straight from reading it (’cause, I obviously read it in full), to testing Sawyer.

Honestly, I was kinda nervous. I’ve tested Meryl and two others from her story and, ehhhh. It wasn’t the best, ’cause Meryl’s too similar to me, and her brother is too similar to my sister. (But the third guy was EASY.)

During the question-answering, I was very skeptical and didn’t think that it’dΒ work at ALL and I felt like I was constantly contradicting myself. I got his MBTI, and started reading about it and BAM.

ISFJ-A. Completely. Here’s a quick snippet of it:

The ISFJ personality type is quite unique, as many of their qualities defy the definition of their individual traits. Though possessing the Feeling (F) trait, ISFJs have excellent analytical abilities; though Introverted (I), they have well-developed people skills and robust social relationships; and though they are a Judging (J) type, ISFJs are often receptive to change and new ideas. As with so many things, people with the ISFJ personality type are more than the sum of their parts, and it is the way they use these strengths that defines who they are.

~16 Personalities

So you know, that describes him perfectly.

And the Hogwarts house? I would go with Hufflepuff, mostly.

Are they more likely to worry about present problems, or freak out about the unknown future?

Present, definitely. He’s a pretty passive guy, so he doesn’t freak out a lot (or worry – they’re basically the same thing.), but he’d be more about present issues than the unknown future.

What is their favourite thing to drink?

Hmm. Milk or hot chocolate. But he doesn’t like milk hot chocolate, only the 3mtm-scotchcaltm-glass-finish-frosted-blue-7725-327water/package kind.

What is their favourite color? Least favorite?

Blue. A kind of frosted sky blue.

What is a book that changed their life?

Sawyer *gasps* is not a big reader. I know, I know. Before all of you, my fangirls (or boys), mob me,Β Alice loves to read. And she tells him all about them. But, he’s never really been changed by a book before.

And believe me, I say that all with aΒ very heavy heart.
